“The Choices you make in your life will make your life. You matter. Your life matters.” by Michael Josephson

Service with Tai Po Elderly

I have volunteered in few community service which is similar to the visit to the elderly home in Malaysia and sadly the truth is Malaysia’s elderly are miserable, gloomy, desperate and mostly just waiting for their life to be taken away. Out of surprise, the Tai Po elderly center that we serve was so energetic, fun and cute. They constantly thank us for coming all the way from Malaysia and perform to them. I wanted to tell them so much that we are the one who should be thankful as it was out of our expectation they will like our performance and meanwhile; giving us a chance to wear our country traditional wear. They made me realize that happiness is a choice, is our own choice to stay cheerful or down when we reach our old age of life. It wakens me up on how happiness can drive one's life, where and when should I choose to let go of things that frustrates me and start to enjoy my life. Like the old say, “You only live once, so enjoy every moment in your life.”

Another thing that I look up to them was that even they are old, but their heart and mindset was very young. They have lots of passion in service-volunteering work where they often help disaster victims, distribute lunchbox to the poor and many other meaningful and impactful activities. Apart from attending dance session and tai chi session during their free time, they even learn handcrafting or even get training from call centres to learn to call others to sell something such as credit card. I think these are good ways for the elderly to spend their free time rather than sitting there while do nothing. If I have the ability, I will think of bringing up this kind of activities in Malaysia Elderly Home so that the elderly can benefit as well as the community.

They say I look good :D
First time wearing Baju Kurung :D

They are so active and cute !

When Malaysian meet Hong Konger Part 2

Day 3 (28/7/2014)

Went to St.Barnabas Home to carry out community services of the day. SBH is built for children who are orphans, children abused or abandoned as well as children who have fallen victims to natural disasters. Despite their background, they are a bunch of warmed and lovely children! They welcome us and was so cooperate with us while we having some games with them. There was one particular games which suppose to be passing balloon, however, it turn out stepping balloon competition by them. They just went crazy and burst each of the balloon on the floor. We were shock but what we learn was valuable. Lesson learnt: No matter how the games is  carry out as long as there is a happy ending. Well, from their face we knew that they were enjoyed and excited! I wish I could help them more but I do can't do much right now perhaps when I earn my own money and try my best to help them. In cases you are interested in helping these children, you can log in to their website : http://sbcklang.org/sbhome.html  to find out what you can do for them.

PS: Photo might need to take down as we are not suppose to post up picture/photo with children face to protect their right.

Lunch of the day : Bak Kut Teh
Everyone LOVE this local Chinese food pretty much !
With the help of Vee Yen, they actually order quite a lot packet of Bak Kut Teh back to HK.

Selfie with Yan Ming Sun glasses :D He actually offer me this sunglasses as souvenir, awwww....so sweet of him right :D By the way, the guy selfie with me named Marcus Tong, a boy live with dream. A person that I admire in everyway! His humour sense, sporty appearance and determination made me almost fall for him ! haha ! I'm just kidding ! Sorry girl, he has been taken ! He was a good listener and I do enjoy chatting with him as I get a lot of inspiration ! The another selfie queen, Angelina!! I bet you will like to stick with us as she can always bring laugher to you! *when she laugh, she sound like minion XD

Went to Little Indian in Klang for a walk :) I bring her for permanent Indian Flower tattoo :D Don't worry it didn't hurt at all, 10 minute of drawing or even lesser but it need 30 minute to dry :) So basically after drawing this, she need to watch on to her hand! Haha !

After experiencing Indian culture in Malaysia, we brought them to one of the respectful place, Kuan Yin Temple. I love to capture every moment with them as photo is the only thing I have after they leave Malaysia. What I saw from their faces is actually tiredness as we keep walking under the hot sun and these kind of place Hong Kong did have ! So, I suggested we go for Paradigm for shopping :D And yeah, we get permission form Chor Sir and Mr. Albert so we heading our way to Paradigm for shopping and food hunting :D

Help Ah Ming to choose his cloth for presentation on last day.
Hrm, my taste for cloth is not bad XD
Basically, he spent RM 170 for all the shirt and trouser he brought which was
consider rather cheap for him compare with price in HK.
Oh yeah ! The night had fallen soundly ! Time to go for SS2 night market for food hunt ! Everyone was so happy and excited for Malaysian foods! Well, there you go, food paradise ! *No picture for this. opps....
We are just given one an half hour to hunt for food which is really not enough for us ! We just blindly walk around the SS2 market after having dinner at the Food Market! Reach Taylor around 9pm and start our debrief without wasting time. After the long debrief, I actually company this sport freak, Marcus to jog around campus under the Haze !!! Well, it was my first time to run around Taylor as well as running during night time ! Still, it was a great experience for me! He told me that he enjoy jogging in places that he unfamiliar with. The reason is because from there, he can know more about the structure, environment and people around there. He impress me by his action and I should find a way to live my world soon!

Lesson learnt for today ;Happy can be achieved in varies way. Even a small little act can bring a huge happiness. Sometimes, breaking the rules is not something bad as long as we do it for good cause *apply for certain situation.

Day 4 (29/7/14)

Head our way to Old Folk House after a lovely night. Yesterday I have a nice chat with Bella :) I quietly sneak into RUEM Hotel and yes, I will stay with her for this two day :D She was a shy girl I can say, but she was intelligence just that she don't know. She did told me that at first she was refuse to join as the only people or friend he know is Marcus as they come from the same team "woo fu ". Still, she step out from his comfort zone and take the chance! Now, she don't even feel regret but grateful that she make it :) She told me that she don't even want to left us right now...awww.... I feel her.You know. I really hope that time can be reversed so that I have more time with them. Eii... going further and further dy >.<

Okay, everything was not go according as the plan. At the Old Folk House, old peoples was so lazy to care what is happen around. The person in-charge told us that they won't leave their bed if only we are going to give them angpao. Sadly, we are not indeed we had brought them some fruit and biscuits. All of us was hoping that everyone in the home can come down so that the activity planned carry out smoothly! We try our best to advice them to come down, but they refuse to do so and give a lot of reason like headache, painful legs and so on. In the end, we scattered around the home and have a nice chat with respective old man/woman. Well, I had a wonderful chat with her :) She is 92 years old which is do hard to believe! She is so healthy and I can't see any sickness from her ! Compare to others, she was strong enough! She told me that she was blessed as she always be protected by God. She believe that "好心有好报" and she is loyalty to God. I totally agreed with her that the most important things after all is the Kind hearted of one's. I love to help people since small my dream is to become a doctor even-though I didn't study doctor now but still I helping people in different way. The things that matter is the Kind hearted I always have. Not to praise myself, I do enjoy helping people and hope to reach more people as I can. From her, I learn a lot! Olds one over the Old Folk house usually down and upset as they were abandoned by their own child at their old age. Surprisingly, she was not. She willingly come over to spend the rest of her lifetime in this Old Folk House as she don't want to burden her daughter. She have five daughter and all having their own family, thus, she won't want to disturb any of her daughter new family. She was so caring and lovely, I just wish I have more time to chat with her ! Well, at least I learn something from her, value that is indescribable!  After chatting session, we have some performance for them before heading home.

Could see that everyone enjoy the performance!
And here come to the end of the visit :)

Another shopping session after Lunch! yeah ! Everyone was so excited ! We went to Pasar Seni by LRT as we need to let them experience taking train in Malaysia. Something funny happen is that one of our HK friend, Ah Mui she accidentally went up to the train ALONE!!! OMG, everyone was freak out :/ Luckily she can heard Carol ask her to go down from the train at the next station ! She did and we finally reunion together ! What an experience for her ! I never thought that central market is a good place to shopping! Seeing all of them coming back in full hand made me realise that we never appreciate or value on ours country goods while others does ! We did bring them to Old Town to try our signature dish, Nasi Lemak
and Old town white coffee and even walk to Petaling Street for half an hour walk even it's raining ! It was pack and squizy ? (hahaha) but still the important thing is let them observe the culture over Malaysia. According to feedback, throughout this few day, the place they like the most is Central Market. As they can buy a lot of souvenir as well as postcard over here. I glad that they enjoy! :) Went for early dinner after the walk. PS: Last dinner for us T.T Thus, photo boom occur XD

It is the last night we can seat together dining together and play together. 32 of us having a hard time as we all know that today going to be the last night. T.T Last venue - KLCC ! The tallest twins building in the World which is famous for shopping as well as night view! We have our sweet time over here and lots of pictures were taken ! I was always impressed by the night view of KLCC, it was so amazing and chilling ! It was my first time enjoying the night view here as the first time I came is evening ! Here you go, picture of the day :)

I was looking for the group picture where everyone was in , but fail to find it >.< Nevermind, it probably still haven't upload >.< We have a lot of fun and chat over there but I want to complaint !! It's too hot !! Everyone was complaint for the hot weather, even night time still most of our shirt is wet by our sweat !

Last debrief session, I cried. Knowing that they leaving me tomorrow...it just so sad. Throughout the debriefing session, I learnt a lot. We were required to put our nametag on the chair (meet your goal ) or below the chair (didn't meet your goal) . Without hesitation, I put my nametag above the chair. WHY? It is because I still remember clearly that when I first joining CSI I was told that the first project I handling was student from HKIED. They seldom brief me about what it is, by just knowing that we going to lead bunch of hong kong student to perform community service in Malaysia as well as bring them around.  But, after this five day, I learn more than I expect !

"You say I'm a dreamer but I not the only one!"
Since small, I always wish to help people in anyway. Even a small act, I feel happy enough! I hope the world is a better place to live with. After meet them, I know that I not the only one who want to change the world, they are those people who have the same dream and same passion as me! The feeling was so good when you know that you are not the only one !

When Malaysian meet Hong Konger

I wanted to share something. Something that made a great impact in my life.

A wonderful experience with a bunch of lovely peoples who arrive from Hong Kong! I was so glad that I step out of my comfort zone, and made it an interview with Mr. Albert., advisor of Community Service Initiative of Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. Out of the blue, I was elected as Project and Event Management Director of CSI! As a student representing Taylor's University, I was proud that I was given a chance to contribute and add value to my school :)  I promise that I will contribute even more as I really love to help people. It was my dream to help people since young.  Before dragging too far,  let's come back and talk about the main purpose of writing this blog!

My first ever mission, being one of the committee member of CSI , we are giving a chance to lead the group of people form HKIED (The Hong Kong Institution of Education)  and bring them around Malaysia to perform community service as well as visit some famous places in Malaysia! Five day four night is rather short for us, so our plan just include some minor visitation to some representative place of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. I was always excited for this moment to come ! Even I need to give up my holiday, time spent with family but its all worth it !

Day 1 (26/7/2014)

My first ever experience holding a cardboard with a title of "Welcome HKIED" in KLIA airport ! I will never forget the excitement running through my body ! We chat and played around for almost an hour while waiting for the bunch of HK student to arrived ! *really tired to stand for one hour. Yeap! The moment they arrived, every Taylorian put on a big smile on their faces and give the warmest welcome to them. Before meeting them, I was kind of worry will they be unfriendly ? will it feel weird if I approached them? Well, surprisingly the answer is they are so FRIENDLY and WARM ! Some of them start to introduce themselves to us and I was totally melt by their warmest welcome.
Photo taken last day in airport.
Up to the bus, as one of their rules, they are required to sit single and let the other single seat filled up by another Taylorian. Well, I was rather lucky, a boy named Ah Shun approach me and sat beside me. He was kind of decent, shy yet extrovert. We chat a lot about ourself and the funniest thing he told me was he had to overnight at the airport alone as he was worry he could not able to wake up in the morning and miss the flight. In fact, there should be two of them staying over the airport but one of them couldn't made it so ya, left him sleeping in the airport alone! I laughed quite hard for that :D Ya, we have our great time on the way back to University.

As usual, campus tour and ice-breaking session was carry out in the first day. I would say their ice-breaking games were fun and creative! Around 8pm, after our first dinner together, we left them for their own discussion and activity. It was the earliest day I reach home compare to the next four day! Here you go, photo of day one after friendship built :D

Value learnt : Friends uplift the Soul
Inter-culture different made us a better listener

Day 2 (27/7/2014)
Wake up early in the morning after I slept late last night due to follow up some club works. However, it never reduced my excitement to meet these bunch of peoples! I had a slow walk to school with well dressed after my breakfast. When I reached the school, some of them already finish their breakfast provided by Ruemz Hotel. As what people do when they first came to our campus, they were attracted by the goose and duck beside the lake and most of them go have fun with the ducks! After briefing I join them as well, here is some picture taken in the sunny morning :D

This duck actually attack my phone when I trying to take it's picture >.<
*scary !
Up to the bus, we headed to Putrajaya, a city which served as a federal administrative centre of Malaysia. I went here once with my family members and now, I went here with bunch of monkey :D We had a lot of fun and yes, photo boom !

Our First Group Picture :)

Happy Bunny Jump :D

Fail Bunny Jump by HKIED students XD haha!
Haze made the photo a bit blur >.< Imagine how much haze we absorb during the trip !
Oh gosh ! Can't the haze just disappear ! It is so annoying man >.<

The world is full of unexpectancy! What happen next was we were invited for a MV filming ! They are from Indonesia and we were all invited for a dance during their shot!
We are required to repeat the same dances for several times! And now we know being an actress is not that fun >.<

After having some fun and MV shot, we went into the PutraMosque! It was pink in color and we were told that the pink-domed PutraMosque is constructed with rose-tinted granite and can accommodate up to 15,000 worshippers at any one time ! I can say it was a huge and elegant yet welcoming and beautiful prayer space. We are required to put on a red robe with a hood and yeah... it was so hot and basically my whole body is sweating inside >.<

I found myself so funny in the picture :) Like a rabbit XD

Taking picture with the spectacular Warisan Bridge, Putrajaya, Malaysia :
"Macam Yes gam XD Haha! I'm not a model but I like acting XD"

The blessing man in the world ! 左拥右抱!

This girl was out of her mind and keep acting here and there ! Lol!

Seriously, we have taken a lot photo during the days. I would like to share each of them but due to long blog is annoying, therefore I try to make it short ! Just bear with me :)

After Putrajaya Trip, we had our lunch and off we go to Batik Place. As an Malaysian, it was my first time take part in Batik Painting. I would say it was rather shame as from the picture above can see that I was like one of them happily enjoying the scenery of Malaysia. Okay, come back ! Here is some of the picture when we first step in these harmony batik area. I was wondering what was those people doing and then I found out I have the same mission as them where we were required to paint a batik with just three color: blue, red and yellow!

My little art piece that win the appraise ! Receive a batik letter as reward :D
I was so so so stunned ! Haha!

Photo Boom Session again with the random gang :D

Out of surprise, we meet two foreigner at the park and we were invited for Jam Music. It was so amaze as I never know that 20 of us with different music instrument with no practice come out with a good performance! We were rather enjoy during the whole Jam Music!

The ever memorable dinner at Fierce Curry House ! First time using hand to eat rice! and I feel proud that I finish it very quickly and clean *due to hungriness ! Some of them refuse to use hand to eat while some of them were their first attempt :

After the awesome dinner, we went for community service. We as a volunteer collaborate with Pertiwi Soup Kitchen distribute free foods and free medical support for the poor or beggar who sleep on street. I was kind of pity them and glad that there are someone in the world willing to spend time to help them. Sadly, there is a news that FT Minister tells KL Soup Kitchen to pay fine or move out ! OMG, their reason is just unacceptable >.< For more information : http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/move-out-or-pay-fine-ft-minister-tells-kl-soup-kitchens .
PS : No photo is taken as we are not allow to bring down any devices.

After the event ended, it was already 12am midnight! Although its late, but the debriefing has to continue. I learnt a lot from the debriefing as that is the time everyone share their mindset and feeling. I was glad to be here with them. Good night :) Continue the following day in next blog.

Life is meant to be explored !
